The original story behind the lyrics of "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" is predicated upon a closed circuit between the internal and external worlds and the desire to explain ones own disturbed psyche by sublimating it to a level far beyond the self, both thematically and relationally.
One man's internal obsessions are, in an attempt to connect with the outside world, externalized upon a group of scientists in hopes of convincing them that, without tangible evidence, aliens communicate via telepathy. A date is set for contact with a message pleading salvation for the human race. Based on real events that took place in Bridgeport, CT in 1953.
Premiered at the Museum of Modern Art, NYC, in 2005.
